Long, thick, dark, luscious lashes have become quite the popular statement. Women have been trying to embellish their lashes for hundreds of years, but most lash decorations are very temporary, and who doesn’t want their lashes to look good ALL of the time?
Individually applied lash extensions give you continuous long, thick lashes for weeks at a time. Each lash extension is applied to one of your natural lashes. When done skillfully, the result is natural-looking long, thick lashes. A properly applied extension comes off with your own lashes as they naturally shed.
Sounds perfect! Maybe not, though… the extensions must be applied with adhesive.
Good Morning America recently aired a story about the dangers of eyelash extensions from the glue used to apply them. It is possible to develop an irritation or an allergic reaction to the glue, which can cause itchy, red or swollen eyelids!
Just like any other cosmetic product, including hair dye, make up, perfumes, creams, nail polish or false nails, there is a risk of an irritation or an allergic reaction to lash extensions or the glue used to apply them.
Follow these tips to have flawless lash extensions:
• Choose a lash stylist who uses the most non-irritating glues/adhesives available.
• Choose a lash stylist that applies extensions appropriate in length/weight for your lashes and make sure the adhesive is not visible/clumpy. Extensions that are too heavy or too long can cause permanent damage to your natural lashes.
• If it seems as though you’re developing a reaction, stay calm, and try not to scratch. Call your lash stylist and a dermatologist for treatment advice. Your rash might be easily handled before it causes significant discomfort.
