Blepharoplasty
Loose upper eyelid skin and under-eye bags are usually a consequence of aging — but you don't have to live with them.
Refresh tired eyes with eyelid surgery.
The eyes are often one of the first places to show signs of aging. Loose skin, puffiness, and drooping eyelids can make you appear tired, older, or less alert than you feel. Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a precise procedure that removes excess or loose skin from the upper eyelids and can also smooth puffiness in the lower eyelids to create a brighter, more refreshed appearance while preserving your natural expression.
The best way to treat the lower eyelids is to remove the excess tissue (fat) from the inside. The incision is made inside the lower eyelid and the exposed fat is removed, leaving the overlying skin smoother and lying flatter. There are no external excisions, scars or stitches involved. The surgery may be paired with a skin tightening or resurfacing laser for complete rejuvenation.
Loose or extra upper eyelid skin is usually a consequence of aging. It happens to all of us to some degree and worsens over time. In some, the upper eyelid skin can fall so much that it touches the lash line. The best solution is to surgically remove the excess skin. Blepharoplasty creates a line of stitches that must heal for seven to 10 days, but once healed, the suture line is hidden in the crease of the upper eyelid. The result is eyes that look more open, awake and youthful.
Dr. Johnson takes a conservative, individualized approach, carefully evaluating your facial anatomy and aesthetic goals to recommend the treatment plan that will achieve balanced, natural-looking results. Whether performed on its own or combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures, blepharoplasty is designed to help you look rested — not different.

Blepharoplasty FAQs
Healthy adults bothered by drooping upper eyelids, under-eye bags, or excess eyelid skin are often good candidates. A consultation with Dr. Johnson will determine whether blepharoplasty is the best option for your goals.
Incisions are carefully placed within the natural creases of the upper eyelids or just below the lash line or inside the lower eyelid when appropriate. As healing progresses, scars typically become difficult to see.
Most patients experience swelling and bruising for one to two weeks. Cold compresses, rest, and following all postoperative instructions will help support your healing. Many people feel comfortable returning to social activities within 10 to 14 days.
Blepharoplasty provides long-lasting improvement. While the natural aging process continues, many patients enjoy their results for years, particularly when they protect their skin from sun damage and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Yes. Blepharoplasty is frequently combined with treatments such as laser skin resurfacing, neurotoxins (cosmetic injectables), dermal fillers, or other facial rejuvenation procedures to achieve more comprehensive results.
