Pediatric Dermatology
Even when a child and adult share the same medical skin condition, the symptoms and treatment may differ.
Pediatric skincare isn’t the same as adult skincare.
Pediatric dermatology includes the examination, diagnosis and treatment of a variety of skin conditions in children. Kids often have different skin conditions than adults. Sometimes the same skin conditions will present in different ways or require different types of treatment.
Your child may have common things like birthmarks or acne or conditions that are a little more unusual. Kids have dermatologic conditions almost anywhere on the body, similar to adults.
Children should have their moles evaluated just like adults, though thankfully skin cancer in children is very rare. Kids tend to get more infections as they build their immune systems, including fungus (ringworm), warts or molluscum. We commonly treat rashes like eczema, cradle cap and rashes from colds and upper respiratory infections.
