If you suffer from dull skin you may feel like your skin just doesn’t seem as smooth, vibrant, or tight as you’d like. Your skin may even feel rough or pebbly and makeup may not go on smoothly. In fact, when one has skin texture issues, it may seem that makeup exacerbates the issue or brings attention to the issue. It isn’t a specific skin condition, and may not be related to age. It may just be your genetic predisposition. It doesn’t have to remain that way though.
If you’re looking for ways to treat dull skin, pores, and texture, schedule an appointment with Steele Dermatology online or give us a call at (770) 464-6000.
Sometimes there are acne-related issues that cause skin texture unevenness. These can be under-the-skin, tiny cysts and bumps and acne scars. You may also have rougher or more dull skin genetically that requires more exfoliation on a regular basis. There are certain conditions, like keratosis pilaris, that cause the skin to feel rough. Sun damage and other environmental factors (especially smoking) can, of course, cause uneven skin texture and dullness which will require repair.Â
Typically you’ll notice uneven skin texture, tone and texture on the face, but some people have conditions on the arms, legs, and buttocks that require smoothing treatments.
How do we treat dull skin, pores, and texture?
Depending on the cause of the dullness or unevenness, we’ll treat it accordingly. If it is a more genetic factor, then your skin will continue to make new skin in the same way, so we will make sure that you have an ongoing skincare regimen to ensure that the skin remains smooth and even. For any conditions discussed though, a therapeutic laser or peel is likely necessary to improve the skin condition.
Microneedling is an office procedure where tiny needles puncture the skin in a repeated and controlled manner. The needles spark the natural healing process in the skin, to make new fresh skin, repair damaged skin, and smooth skin texture. Numbing is required prior to the procedure to ensure proper depth of penetration is achieved for maximum results.
Laser Skin Rejuvenation with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a way to improve skin texture and color with a laser-like device. IPL treatments, also known as photofacials, help with red and brown discoloration on the skin, especially sun damage, sun freckles, and general aging process to improve radiance.
Laser Skin Toning with Laser Genesis is a safe and effective laser treatment to help even skin texture and tone/color for all skin types. A no downtime, “lunchtime” laser treatment that stimulates healthy collagen remodeling to smooth the texture. Over several treatments, you’ll see smoother and more radiant skin.
CO2 Laser Resurfacing is a powerful laser treatment that smooths and tightens skin. The energy from this laser can blast away skin that shows deep scars, wrinkles, and other textural changes. Using lighter settings of the CO2 resurfacing laser can help improve mild textural defects.
Chemical Peels (medical grade) are treatments that are applied to the skin by one of our aestheticians in the office. It usually causes the skin to peel a few days after application. The specific formulation of the chemicals in the chemical peel is designed to target discoloration, acne, or other skin conditions. They are often combined with other treatments like microneedling, hydradermabrasion, or laser genesis to improve texture and tone.
Hydradermabrasion is a treatment to cleanse, extract, and hydrate the skin. We utilize the Hydrafacial system in our offices to perform this procedure that replaces combines the effects or typical microdermabrasion, facials/extractions, and hydration masks, and chemical peels. A gentle way to treat discoloration, as well as pores, texture, and acne.
