Ultherapy is an ultrasound energy-based treatment that is FDA indicated to lift and tighten skin and supporting tissues. Ultherapy goes deeper than many other treatments to reach the lower layers of skin and supportive tissues that must tighten to provide long-lasting change. The ultrasound energy is delivered from above the surface of the skin to the underlying layers via imaging (just like an ultrasound view of a pregnant woman’s belly), so we know exactly where the energy is going. Ultimately, the ultrasound energy creates an injury to stimulate new collagen and elastin production in the deepest skin layers. Ultherapy is both used to correct and prevent skin sagging and loosening.Â

UNDERSTANDING YOUR TREATMENT
On the day of treatment, our esthetician will mark the areas to be treated, lie you down and get you comfortable and set up with Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas). She will apply ultrasound gel to the skin for the probe to glide along during treatment. As she passes the probe along the skin, she will visualize the tissue on the screen and then deliver the energy. Once she treats one area, she moves on to the next, a few millimeters at a time to ensure that the entire area is treated. It feels like a little zap of static electricity under the skin.Â
There is no downtime following ultherapy. You can return to any activities you like after treatment. You will feel little tingles and zingers up to a few weeks after the treatment (you know it’s working :-)). You can also have other treatments done immediately after treatment, like microneedling, laser, fillers, or toxin. They all work in conjunction to produce collagen and improve the skin. For the most superficial layers of treatment, you may have some redness or hives for a day or two after treatment, which can easily be treated.Â
Ultherapy treatments lead to long-lasting results. You do not see results for at least 8-12 weeks because results come from your body making new collagen and elastin, which takes time. The great thing about that is that that new collagen and elastin are long-lasting. You will, however, continue to age and lose volume, collagen, and elastin generally, so you will likely want to be treated again, usually in 2-3 years, depending on how you age, how old you are, and how attentive you are to changes in your skin.
